• Hard wearing, extra large luggage

  • Hello all,

I'm moving abroad shortly and need to take a large amount of clothes, small belongings, etc. for my new life. I'm only going acorss Europe, so a large scale move doesn't make too much sense, but also packing in a normal sense for a holiday would be too limiting.

Basically, I'm on the hunt for an extra large (hopefully wheeled) piece of luggage that is flexible in shape (ie, not a hard case) which looks as inconspicuous as possible. I've been looking at some dive bags which are on the way to what I'm looking for, like the Manta Bag. I have a feeling a technical bag suits my purposes rather than a 'traditional' luggage piece.

Will be used primarily for air travel, but would want something to be my main luggage piece, so for all holidays, in the car etc.

And I thought, well cool tools is always on a good tip, so I thought I would ask, and see if anyone can recommend something hardwearing, strong, flexible, spacious, low profile, built to last and preferably black! Open to all prices...

Patagonia's Black Hole line jumps to mind. They've now got a 100L model with wheels. And a 120L model as a "normal" duffel type.

Patagonia's stuff is always very well made, made to last and created with both people and our planet in mind.

And if you've got stuff to ship that needs good protection, the Pelican boxes are pretty good. I've got two that I offer every week to the gorillas under the airport, and so far so good. Get them most reliably from B&H Photo (in the US, anyway).

I agree with Wayne, but prefer the North Face Base Camp duffels. Mine have traveled all over the world for 10+ years, look like crap, and are awesome.

Try RedOxx. Their stuff is all military grade. Also made in the US. Pricey, but overbuilt and well worth the investment.

Cool tools really work.

A cool tool can be any book, gadget, software, video, map, hardware, material, or website that is tried and true. All reviews on this site are written by readers who have actually used the tool and others like it. Items can be either old or new as long as they are wonderful. We post things we like and ignore the rest. Suggestions for tools much better than what is recommended here are always wanted.

Tell us what you love.
