• Better way to carry smartphone for women (and males as well)

  • I'm looking for an alternate way to carry a smartphone other than my purse. Women's clothes often don't have deep pockets (if any) so that doesn't work. Also, in noisy places I often don't hear the phone ring despite having an ultraloud and unusual ringtone.

If you carry your cell phone in a pocket that holds it against you body and the phone is set to vibrate you should feel it when it rings.

From a male's perspective:

1) The "napoleon pocket" in the 5.11 Tactical Shirt works well for carrying/accessing a cellphone.

The "Taclite" material seems to be all-but impervious to wear. http://www.511tactical.com/taclite-pro-long-sleeve-shirt-126497.html http://www.511tactical.com/womens-taclite-pro-long-sleeve-shirt.html

The all-cotton shirts are good but are more subject to wear. http://kk.org/cooltools/archives/358 http://www.511tactical.com/511-tactical-shirt-long-sleeve-cotton-115916.html

Get on the emailing list for http://www.511tactical.com and http://www.lapolicegear.com as these shirts will occasionally go on sale.

2) ScottVest's "Performance T-Shirt" has a nearly-underarm "chest pocket" that is excellent for a cellphone but I'm not sure the fit would be suitable for a female. http://www.scottevest.com/v3_store/SeV_Tshirt.shtml

3) Royal Robbins makes woman's shirts with a "Secured document pocket" that might be suitable. http://www.royalrobbins.com/p-1220-lt-expedition-long-sleeve.aspx?category=womens-styles&subcategory=long-sleeve-shirts

4) I understand that this is an eccentric suggestion but I wonder if there might be a woman's concelled handgun product that might work well for a cellphone, eg. http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/concealed-carry-products-for-women-the-well-armed-woman/, http://www.thewellarmedwoman.com/store

Cool tools really work.

A cool tool can be any book, gadget, software, video, map, hardware, material, or website that is tried and true. All reviews on this site are written by readers who have actually used the tool and others like it. Items can be either old or new as long as they are wonderful. We post things we like and ignore the rest. Suggestions for tools much better than what is recommended here are always wanted.
