I am looking into making a shade structure for a couple of tents for Burning Man. Most of the suggestions I've found are too expensive, require too many parts, or are basically tarps that lie right on top of tents cutting off ventilation. Is there a method for creating a cheap shade structure that is effective throughout the day and can be made from easily available, non-specialist materials? The structure needs to be able to be secured to withstand dust-storms. Also, it needs to be re-usable. |

Sounds like you want a tarp, some poles, some stakes, and some rope, and information on how to pitch it securely without having it lie on top of your tent? Here is [more information than you ever wanted about how to pitch tarps]. And since it is only for shade in the desert, you might want to consider using a mesh tarp for better air circulation. link |
