Soft Shell SlimFold wallet

img

Half as thin as a leather wallet

I have been searching for a nice, small, slim, durable wallet for a long time. I have tried some crowd favorites like the HuMn aluminum, the Whipping Post’s Mojave guitar pick wallet, the Freitag’s Brandon wallet, the Nau’s Bill Fold (which includes a small pocket for GSM SIM cards),… Even a Tyvek Mighty Wallet. But none pleased me more than the SlimFold’s original micro Tyvek wallet.

Tyvek is the material used in some of the FeDex envelopes: is waterproof, is very resistant to scratches and wear, can be stitched. The original SlimFold is already a fantastic wallet, but recently Dave Zuverink, the creator of the original model, started to investigate new materials, and decided on a type of soft shell, a material similar to GORE-TEX, which is ultra thin, washable and more durable than the original Tyvek. He started a Kickstarter project and got funded 10x of what was initially the goal.

I got my wallet and I’m really happy with it. The wallet is perfect for American currency, though, so those using bigger currencies will have a problem with it. Inside the wallet there are two pieces of hard plastic which maintain the shape of the fabric. I found the original plastic that came with the wallet too hard for my taste, and substituted it (in a very easy operation) with a softer version, which I cut out of a plastic folder. I can carry up to 9 credit cards (or credit card sized cards and ID) and some dollars in the 3 visible and 2 hidden pockets.

I am considering purchasing a few others as a backup and giving them as presents to friends and family.
