Every time I look at it I\u2019m surprised by what I find in it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-38994\" src=\"https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1163.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1163\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1163.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1163-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I was an engineer at Memorex in the mid-1980s, a coworker gave me a photocopy of a self-published booklet by Timothy Leary called\u00a0<em>Starseed: Transmitted from Folsom prison<\/em>. I haven\u2019t read it in 35 years, but it had something to do with Comet Kohoutek and how it was going to either destroy all life on the planet or lift human consciousness to a higher level. (You can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/starseed00learrich\/page\/n1\/mode\/2up?utm_campaign=What%27s%20in%20my%20...%20%3F&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">read a scan<\/a>\u00a0at the Internet Archive)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-38995\" src=\"https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1161.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1161\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1161.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1161-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I got this little plastic tool kit from the amazing Tokyu Hands department store in Tokyo. I think the plastic is made of some kind of composite material because it feels very hard, and I\u2019ll bet it would really work as a tool kit. But I like the way it looks attached to the mold sprues so I keep it intact.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-38996\" src=\"https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1162.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1162\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1162.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1162-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I picked up this nose hair removal kit from a store in Tokyo called Village Vanguard. It comes with little plastic beads that you put in the microwave and heat until soft, then attach a plastic wands to it and stick up your nose. When the plastic cools down you pull it out and your nose hair is stuck to it like a nightmarish lollipop. I tried it and it hurt a lot. When I\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/boingboing.net\/2018\/08\/15\/this-nose-hair-ripper-outer-i.html?utm_campaign=What%27s%20in%20my%20...%20%3F&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">posted about it on Boing Boing<\/a>\u00a0people told me it\u2019s a good way to get a nasal infection, and having an infection in your nose is really bad because it\u2019s close to your brain. I\u2019m not going to use it again. I use a nose hair trimmer instead.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-38997\" src=\"https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1165.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1165\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1165.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2021\/08\/IMG_1165-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My daughter bought this little plastic statuette in Chiang Mai, Thailand for me. It served as the inspiration for a project I\u2019ve been working on for a year and a half.
