I finally had an excuse to use their service and was blown away by how helpful they were. I had been reading\u00a0<em>History of the Conquest of Mexico<\/em>\u00a0written in 1890, and could not find any information for one of the cited sources which was written 300 years prior, so I submitted a request and \u2014 in less than 24 hours \u2014 I received a response from the Hispanic Division Reference Librarian who linked me to a digitized copy of the manuscript, and 5 other links to codices of Pre-Hispanic History that I would have never discovered otherwise. It\u2019s such an invaluable resource. \u2014 CD<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Reddit list of \u201cuseful unknown websites\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nThis nearly endless Reddit list of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/AskReddit\/comments\/q2viki\/what_useful_unknown_website_do_you_wish_more\/?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0useful websites you probably don\u2019t know about<\/a>\u00a0is full of gems. Here are a few I discovered:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"revue-ul\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rsoe-edis.org\/eventMap?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">RSOE-EDIS<\/a>\u00a0is a live world map of emergencies. Icons represent fires, tornadoes, earthquakes, plane crashes, biological endemics, public safety incidents, animal attacks, and more.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.readsomethinggreat.com\/?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">Read Something Great<\/a>\u00a0is a curated database of \u201ctimeless\u201d articles.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/flickmetrix.com\/?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">Flick Metrix<\/a>\u00a0is a list of the \u201ctop rated movies on Netflix, created by combing ratings from across the web.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mynoise.net\/?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">myNoise<\/a>\u00a0has links to a wide variety of tunable white noise generators, ambient sounds, tinnitus reducers, and other interesting audio effects. As I\u2019m writing this, I\u2019m listening to a soothing soundscape called<a href=\"https:\/\/mynoise.net\/NoiseMachines\/anamnesisSoundscapeGenerator.php?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Anamnesis<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justtherecipe.com\/?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">Just the Recipe<\/a>\u00a0strips out everything from an online recipe besides the ingredients and instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2014 MF<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poetry zine<\/strong><br \/>\nClaudia (CD here) is too modest to recommend this herself, but she puts out a small poetry zine printed on paper that I enjoy.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phantomkangaroo.com\/issue-no-25?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">Phantom Kangaroo<\/a>\u00a0is 26 pages of illustrated \u201cesoteric\u201d poetry \u2014 celebrating the mystical, paranormal, and the ecstatic \u2014 contributed by a network of poets she has cultivated the past decade.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/geni.us\/pk-issue-25?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">Current issue (#25) is $13<\/a>. \u2014 KK<\/p>\n<p><strong>Understanding crypto<\/strong><br \/>\nCrypto is weird, perplexing, silly, revolutionary, overhyped, underhyped, a mania, thrilling, accelerating, and awash in huge oceans of money that make it very difficult to discern what is real and sustainable. I am reading\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.readthegeneralist.com\/briefings?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">The Generalist<\/a>, a free website of long \u201cbriefs\u201d written by one analyst, to parse what is happening, I still have a zillion questions about crypto, but I have gotten more clarity from here than anywhere else on this confounding subject. \u2014 KK<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuna strainer<\/strong><br \/>\nI have a<a href=\"https:\/\/geni.us\/ibXH?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0smooth-edge can opener<\/a>\u00a0and I like it much more than an old-fashioned can opener. My wife complains when she uses it to open a can of tuna, though, because the diameter of the cut lid is too large to squeeze the water out of the can. So I bought this<a href=\"https:\/\/geni.us\/tuna-strainer?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0simple tuna strainer<\/a>. It\u2019s a metal cup with holes in it. Press down on the handles and you can squeeze as much liquid as you want from the can. \u2014 MF<\/p>\n<p><strong>Declaration of Enchantment<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen I feel uninspired, I like to re-read this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chalquist.com\/declaration-of-enchantment\/?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">Declaration of Enchantment<\/a>, written by Depth Psychologist Craig Chalquist. There are 15 articles \u2014 all outlining the importance of nurturing our imagination. Reading this invigorates my curiosity and infuses me with awe. Below is an excerpt from the Preamble. \u2014 CD<\/p>\n<p><em>We can live a few weeks without food, a few days without water, and a few hours without shelter in an inhospitable clime, but we cannot live for even a moment without some movement of imagination in mind and body. To restrict its enlivening flow is to cripple the wellsprings of health, vitality, and sanity. Enchantment is a self-evident basic right.
