In the government&#8217;s eyes 93% of Americans officially classified as living in poverty have a color TV, and 60% have a <span class=\"nr-highlight\">VCR<\/span> and a <span class=\"nr-highlight\">microwave<\/span>. Poverty is not what it used to be. <span class=\"nr-emphasis\">Technological knowledge constantly ups the ante.<\/span> Most Americans today would find living without a <span class=\"nr-highlight\">refrigerator<\/span> and <span class=\"nr-highlight\">telephone<\/span> to be primitive, indeed. These items were luxuries only 60 years ago.
