  • Do you have any experience with renting or purchasing a satellite phone?

  • There seem to be three carriers, one of them using stationary sats. Does anyone have experience with more than one carrier, or can make an informed recommendation about the best/cheapest way to get a sat phone for a month?

I can't help with cost knowledge, but in use, geosync (stationary) systems have a propagation delay that's very difficult to adjust to conversationally (23k miles out & back slows things down a lot). And I was using the Iridium system recently in the Canadian Rockies - the mountainous horizon made it difficult to sustain a connection for very long (low orbit heights and high speed made call handoffs between "cells" extra tricky).
