In the first 24 hours after a tissue injury, keep the injury site cool/cold. After 24 hours, put on warmth for 30 minutes and then cool for 15. The initial cold will control swelling and the hot-then-cold will increase the circulaiton through the injury site to promote recovery. – Waldo Weyeris
