A Starting Place for Finding Flight Deals
Supposedly today is the busiest day of the year for flight searches in the USA. I’ll let you deduce the reasons for this, but a quick reminder that if you are looking for the most flight options and prices from your own airport, put your dates (or just a departure date) into Google Flights and leave the destination blank. You’ll then get a world map showing the prices for anywhere you could fly. You can move around the map, zoom in, and adjust dates to see how that changes fares. Just remember that it doesn’t include Southwest or Allegiant because they don’t share data.
The Cheapest Places to Live in 2025
Each year I do a lengthy updated blog post on the best bargain countries around the world for those who are coming in with earnings or savings in a strong hard currency. Prices usually don’t change drastically from year to year, but some new ones pop in, some older ones get more expensive due to currency exchange rates, macro economic factors, or war-zone proximity. See the full rundown here: The Cheapest Places to Live in the World.
Abandoned Tourist Attractions
This fascinating look at abandoned tourist attractions around the world has some before and after shots and a quick back story on what happened to each. From an amusement park and hotel set up by a scheming televangelist to places destroyed by natural disasters, it is a good reminder that nothing lasts forever (especially if it was made in the modern age).
Looking Kuhl While Traveling
On a two-month jaunt through Europe, I packed some items from independent brand Kuhl (really “KÜHL”) to join some of my usual clothing staples. I especially liked the Team Merino Quarter Zip and the Aero Knit Merino Button Down tops that I could wear for long stretches between washings. The tough Resistor Tapered Chino Pant with a zippered back pocket and another on the side for glasses will get years of future use as well. Kuhl offers a lot of rugged winter wear for men and women, including ski clothing, at Kuhl.com. Not cheap, but made to last.
